Digging for rocks

Pack Rock Dig!!

Come join us for our annual rock dig at Graves Mountain. It will be a day of digging and playing in the dirt.

Please see the Graves Mountain Code of Conduct at the bottom of this page

In the past my kids dug for a bit, explored a lot, and climbing on piles of rocks.

If there is a good chance of rain we will not go.

Depending on how long you want to stay you may want to bring a lunch that fits in your backpack.

When we went prior to Covid they had golf carts that would run people back and forth between the parking area and the digging sites. I am not sure how many they will have as this event is based on donations they have through out the year. So don’t bring anything you aren’t ready to carry a half a mile or so.

There isn’t an entry fee, but they do ask for a $3-$5 donation from all attending families. The pack will be donating $30 on behalf of any who attend.

When

We will be meeting in the parking lot area starting at 9:00am on Saturday October 5th.

There are waivers to sign for each family at the first tent, please make sure you fill one out for your family.

Depending on the golf cart situation we will get in line or start walking to a dig site at about 9:20. If you arrive late, its not big deal, just give me a call and I will let you know what dig site we went to so you can meet up with us an share in the fun.

What to bring

You will need to bring your own digging/exploring tools. Some suggestions are small shovels (trowels), full size shovel, hammers and rock chisels. Please bring eye protection if you are going to break open rocks. This is all about having fun and being outdoors.

Be sure to wear good shoes for walking, NO SANDALS. Kids will get dirty so have them wear something that doesn’t matter if it gets dirty.

Depending on how long you want to stay you may want to bring a lunch that fits in your backpack.
